Important Update: Iran Visa Applications Are Open Again

Starting May 2026, Iran has reopened its visa application process. Most travelers can now apply via licensed travel agencies and then travel independently once in the country. Applicants still need to submit a rough itinerary as part of the visa application. During the trip, accommodation is limited to officially licensed hotels and guesthouses — homestays or private lodging with locals are not allowed.

Citizens of the US, UK, and Canada are an exception: per Iran’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs rules, they must book their trip as part of an organized tour accompanied by a licensed guide throughout.
